NanoShield

A new way to stabilize temperature-sensitive molecules during storage, transport and use.

What is NanoShield?

NanoShield is a revolutionary type of additive (or excipient) that can extend the temperature-controlled shelf life of unstable molecules and potentially completely eliminate the need for temperature controlled storage for some.

Picture
NanoShield is a proprietary, PEG-based excipient that encapsulates molecules in a hydrogel matrix shielding from forces that cause degradation.
At the point of use, molecules are released from NanoShield by photo-triggered degradation of the hydrogel by exposure to a specific wavelength of benign, low-intensity light for a short period of time.
After release, all that remains is soluble PEG and the cargo molecule now ready for use.

NanoShield may be applied to:
Biologics (Antibody Therapeutics, Protein Therapeutics, Vaccines)
The Problem
  • Biologics are the fastest growing class of new drugs that allow the treatment of diseases never before possible.
  • Antibodies, recombinant proteins, vaccines, etc. are often unstable and very sensitive to extreme temperatures.
  • Biologics require refrigeration during development, manufacturing, storage and transportation.

The NanoShield Solution
  • NanoShield can increase the stability of biologics such as therapeutic antibodies, proteins therapeutics and vaccines.
  • NanoShield enables drugs to tolerate exposure to elevated temperatures, freezing and agitation.
  • Increased biologic stability allows for:
    • Reduced product loss
    • Decreased cost
    • Simplified mail delivery of drugs for patients
    • Access for patients in the developing world
Specimens for Diagnostics
The Problem
  • Life-saving medical diagnostics require high-quality biological samples such as blood, saliva and urine
  • Critical protein biomarkers in the samples can rapidly degrade without temperature-controlled storage and transport
  • Degradation can compromise the accuracy of diagnostic analyses

The NanoShield Solution
  • Protein biomarkers within biological samples stored with NanoShield will have increased stability
  • Increased biological sample stability allows for:
    • Reduced costs associated with sample processing
    • More accurate and reliable diagnostics used to inform medical treatments and save lives
Reagents used in Biological Research
The Problem
  • Protein-based research reagents such as antibodies, enzymes and recombinant proteins are vital for biological research
  • Many research-grade products are extremely temperature labile
  • Currently, most products require complicated and expensive dry ice packaging during shipping
  • Product loss is common, expensive and is an unnecessary bottleneck for critical scientific discoveries

The NanoShield Solution
  • Formulation with NanoShield will stabilize research reagents, allowing for:
    • Decreased cost
    • Simplified shipping logistics
    • Reduced product loss due to temperature exposure
    • Accelerated scientific research
Industrial Enzymes
The Problem
  • Protein-based industrial reagents such as enzymes are widely used in a great variety of manufacturing applications
  • Enzymes are sold based on activity; it is important to both producer and customer that they retain activity during storage
  • Efficient storage often requires expensive temperature controlled environments
  • Loss of enzymatic potency during storage can greatly impact costs associated with manufacturing

The NanoShield Solution
  • Formulation with NanoShield allows for:
    • Alleviated need for expensive temperature controlled storage
    • Reduce potency loss
    • Reduced materials costs
    • Improved efficiency for manufacturing processing requiring these expensive reagents
